Vancouver: 19 fans injured in crowd surge

Alexisonfire cancelled their free Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics show last night (16 Feb 2010) just 20 seconds into their set, after the 7,600 strong crowd surged forward and collapsed the barriers in front of the stage. They immediately stopped playing and jumped into the audience to help the mound of 40 fans, 19 were injured, of which nine sent to hospital, two had lower leg fractures.

Dallas Green, vocalist and guitarist for the Canadian band Alexisonfire, threw down his guitar and jumped into the crowd after a metal barrier collapsed at its Vancouver.

The band posted this on their website, about last night:

We always take great care in the safety of our fans and are saddened that this happened. We are sincerely sorry that people were injured. We want to thank the security team, paramedics and police for their quick reaction. We especially want to thank our fans for cooperating and not making a bad situation worse.

ATP talk to Dallas Green about how he got into music, future shows, City and Colour, and more.

Dallas lets us know a bit about what Alexisonfire are doing over the coming year; releasing their EP containing songs which didn't make it onto the new album along with brand new material. They're hoping to play the UK Download Festival in 2010. Shows in South Africa and South America too - countries never played by the band before.

We'll probably come back to the UK for Download Festival as we played Reading/Leeds Festival last time.We want to try and go to a bunch of places we've never played before like South Africa and South America hopefully.

Upcoming EP 'Dogs Blood' on the horizon

Alexisonfire will begin recording brand new material this January, titled 'Dogs Blood'. It is planned to be released during Spring 2010.

In other news, the XM Verge Music Awards saw the band picking up the coveted $25,000 'Album of the Year' award for their latest album 'Old Crows/Young Cardinals'.
